In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, IE helps Motorola rebuild it's manufacturing capabilities

When Motorola's Southern manufacturing facilities were devasted by Katrina, the test systems needed for production were also destroyed. Never was there a greater demand for Police Band Emergency Radio production. They needed to get back up and running fast, so they outsourced the test production to IE.

The problem was there was no documentation available for the destroyed test stations. Working only from photographs supplied by Motorola, IE reverse-engineered the stations in only three weeks and began delivering the sorely needed test stations in less than 10 days, and the entire order within one month.

The chart below shows the request dates and the delivery dates for the dozen-plus test stations IE built. All procurement was done via the IE supply chain, including instrumentation, RF components and hardware.

USAF's upgraded A-10 Warthogs will be ready for combat soon, and so will the upgraded IE System 390s that support them

May 2007 - The U.S. Air Force's A-10C Thunderbolts should soon be combat operational with upgraded avionics and enhanced weapons capabilities. The entire 356-aircraft fleet is getting the upgrades. First flown in 1976, the rough and ready Warthogs have had their service life extended out to 2028, an amazing 53 years.

The A-10 was designed for an operational life of 6,000 flight hours, was later extended to 8,000 hrs., but the fleet average is now 9,000 hrs. The plan is to extend this to 16,000 hrs.

IE System 390s have been an integral part of the A10 program since they first flew in 1976. IE is currently upgrading these 390s to keep pace with the refurbed A10's new enhanced capabilities, which include multifunction displays, digital moving-map, hands-on-throttle-and-stick controls and a digital stores management system. A new software release to enter flight test in November will introduce the SADL datalink, ARC-210 secure radio, 1760 digital weapons databus and Boeing's Joint Direct Attack Munition GPS-guided bomb.

Instrumentation Engineering (IE) awarded test systems contract from General Dynamics Electric Boat to design & manufacture test systems for new Virginia Class Submarines

IE has announced that it has begun manufacturing the first Submarine Flight Critical Component Test Bed (SFCCTB) for General Dynamics Electric Boat. This test system will be used for the revolutionary Virginia Class Submarines. The stealth, firepower and unlimited endurance of these submarines will play a key role in the United State's defense well into the 21st century. IE intends to deliver an equally robust test system and is committed to providing test support throughout the lifecycle of the program.

“I am very proud General Dynamics selected IE on this critical program” said Pat Cupo, President of Instrumentation Engineering. “The SFCCTB requires not only IE’s in-depth military test background, but also draws on our extensive optical and RF engineering expertise.”
